Easy steps

Here it is, with the first warm weather we start thinking about summer, we get rid of excess clothing and we maybe start to get stressed because we have not been planning properly a skincare routine and… do not really feel skin-ready for the summer! After the winter skin might be a bit dull, maybe a bit more dry or oily
than usual, surely pale, and you wish you had done some more exercise to get more tone in your body!

No panic, here we have an easy to follow, basic steps, routine to get you summer ready without stressing out.

  1. Preparation to summer starts with a healthy diet, in particular it is advisable to increase consumption of fresh colourful fruits, vegetables and salads. These are a fantastic source of Beta Carotene, a precursor of vitamin A, which will provide protection and support to your skin for sunny days, helping with production of melanin, protecting from the action of free-radicals, responsible for skin ageing, and helping your skin to better deal with sun exposure.

  2. With warmer weather also the body needs more water, so remember to increase consumption of still water, smoothies and natural fresh fruit juices. Smoothies are preferable to juices because you also keep the fibres, so lower sugar absorption and healthier for your gut. A recipe example? Make a smoothie with 1 whole celery and 1 apple, or 1 slice of pineapple. Otherwise you can try 1 basket of strawberries (300g) and 1 bag of spinach leaves. Delicious, nutritious and perfect as snack or quick breakfast.

3. When it comes to the skin itself, a regular gentle scrub is advisable, to be done at least once per week, on face and body. Although, make sure you do not use a product which still contains plastic beads (now illegal). Best scrubs are those very natural and with very small particles, which result smooth on skin and do not strip or irritate it. Ensure that there are no essential oils! I personally love an organic cotton cloth (60cmx60cm) to remove dead skin cells from my body, to be used during or after the shower, once or twice per week.

4. Hydrate and nourish the skin, both face and body (including hands and feet!). After the shower and scrub use a nourishing balm, massage it on the skin until absorbed. It might take a few minutes to sink in, but doing the massage you also stimulate your circulation, lymphatic drainage, better absorption and therefore a healthier looking skin after a couple of weeks! You can keep this routine also for the post summer, to enjoy the “healthy glowing skin” for longer.

• Our Sicilia Green Clay & Lemon Mask & Scrub is perfect. It is extremely rich in unique minerals from the uncontaminated Clay pits of Sicily and antioxidants from the organic lemon peel powder. The mask is made for the face, but you maybe want to try it for your body once per month.

Do as follow: put 4 spoons of the Green Clay & Lemon Mask powder in a bowl, add 6 spoons of water and 2 spoons of orange juice. Gently massage on all body for 5 minutes, then remove under the shower. No soap needed, as the clay and lemon are natural cleansers. Then you can moisturise using a body butter or a little bit of our Bellissima Balm, very nourishing, it makes the skin really supple, including feet and hands. This can be a little treat, a ritual to repeat once per month. Your skin will thank you!

• Our Honey & Orange Toner is very refreshing and cooling for the summer, as the organic honey and the fermented peptides with condition the skin and add moist, although better to be used in the evening, before going to bed, if you will be sun bathing during the day.

• Our Sea Buckthorn Serum is ideal for summer as the skin becomes a bit more greasy than usual. It has a very light texture, quickly absorbed, great also for combination skin, it is extremely rich in antioxidants and a particular seaweed extract which are made to increase production of collagen and protect the skin from the action of free radicals.

The Serum is fragrance-free, it can be used on its own and it is ideally applied before the SPF. It can be used also for the eye, lips, neck and décolletage area. No essential oils.

For a special treat, use it also on your legs, which will result in a silky smooth look! We called this Serum “Sole e Mare” (sunshine and sea) because it’s perfect for summer and contains ingredients from the sea.

• Our Tomato Cleanser is perfect for the evening. Made with Tomato Seed, Rice Bran and Carrot Seeds cold pressed oils, it will remove SPF and grime, while deeply nourishing, cooling and helping to renovate your cells.
