Smart Self-care for the cold season

Winters is still here and, let’s face it, it’s a challenging time for our skin! Harsh wind, cold temperatures, heating and dry air tend to strip the skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry, dull and stressed. Any weather changes can also affect eczema, as it interferes with the skin barrier’s function.

Unfortunately, it’s not only the weather that can challenge your winter skin care. Stress, lack of exercise, lethargic mood, eating more sugar and fat than usual (which can happen in response to a lack of sunlight) can cause occasional breakouts, tightness, redness, dullness. What can you do to help your skin and make it feel more nourished?

There are some easy lifestyle habits and beauty routine changes which can help you to feel and look at your best! We give you some easy to follow tips!

1.      Do regular gentle exfoliation about once per week, this will help to remove dead skin cells and therefore it will help to better absorb the nutrients, antioxidants and actives contained in your moisturizer. Our Green Clay Mask & Scrub is perfectly gentle and effective.

2.      Use a gentle Toner! A good Toner has a very short list of ingredient, it has a floral water as first ingredient (no water!), and it doesn’t contain harsh preservatives like synthetic preservatives, or Benzyl Alcohol / Benzoic Acid (these are natural but aggressive on skin and mucosae). Our Honey & Orange Toner is made with soothing honey and probiotics, which restore your skin’s hydration film.

3.      Use a Face Oil which contains active ingredients to nourish and pamper your skin before you apply anything else, for example use our Sea Buckthorn Serum. This will boost and revitalize your complexion.

4.      Apply a Balm every day. A Balm will not contain any water, so it’s 100% nutritious, and it will contain a wax (e.g. beeswax) which will protect your skin from dehydration, temperature variations and cold wind. For example our Sea Buckthorn Balm (Bellissima) is perfect to ensure protection from the environment, from pollution, cold and water loss.

5.      Avoid fragranced products on irritated skin! These will make it worst. Read the labels before you purchase a product and ensure that there are no ingredients like: Fragrance, Limonene, Geraniol, Eugenol, etc.

6.      Eat more colored fruit and vegetables, eat fresh raw and wholegrain foods, add seeds to your diet, for example add flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds to your breakfast cereals or to your salad! They contain essential fatty acids, minerals and proteins that can strengthen your skin barrier.

Choosing the right ingredients in your skincare can help you nourish your skin and be 100% ready for spring!
